fluoresent grow lightThe comparison between LED lighting and all the others lighting is simple.  When done right and built correctly the LED’s will last ten times longer, with 50% to 90% less energy used on a constant basis.

It is really easy to see, for instance; A 4 ft florescent tube uses 40w’s for 8,000 hrs (that is 333.334 days or less than one year at 24 hours a day use)

The best fluorescent 18w 4ft tubes will last for 50,000 hours “minimally” and will have run for over 80,000 hours of testing in a lab (that is 2083.334 days or 5.71 years of continual use minimally to 3333.334 days or 9.13 years with continual use) all with more light output.

The conventional lighting with the equivalent output and coverage uses 250w minimum.

Incandescent (regular light bulbs and conventional lighting) and fluorescent tubes and even “energy saving” bulbs all have horrible toxic, dangerous and explosive chemicals in them, some of which leach out into the air. All of it will end up in the ground as these are not recycleable. It is likely that most people don’t know they are toxic and so just throw them away.

Metal halidemetal halide light bulbs are known to produce an abundance of light in the blue spectrum.  The blue color of light encourages plant growth and is especially good for green, leafy growth.  It also helps in keeping plants compact.  This is the best type of light to use as a primary light source if little or no natural sunlight is available.

The average lifespan of a metal halide bulb is about 10,000 cumulative hours.  You can keep using the bulb beyond this time and it will keep lighting up.  Due to its gradual decline, however, you would be wise to replace the bulb for full efficiency.

Comparing the metal halide’s lumen, or brightness, per unit of energy consumed, they produce up to 125 lumens per watt compared to 39 lumens per watt with standard fluorescent lights and 18 lumens per watt for standard incandescent bulbs.

These days, many people are looking for easy ways to grow delicious fruits, vegetables and herbs.  This can be done through indoor gardening. There are gardening methods, such as hydroponics, which require no soil at all to grow wonderful foods. With this indoor gardening system, you will need appropriate grow lights in order for the plants to grow and thrive.

All plants need light in order to perform photosynthesis, whereby the plant converts light into energy for itself. This energy is what allows the plant to grow, mature and reproduce. The key to good photosynthesis in indoor gardening  is having ample light available to all plants. Without this light, growing plants will struggle to reach the little light available and will grow spindly with weak stems, if they grow at all.

The new digital light ballasts offer several advantages over other types of ballasts. One is that they weigh less than the other types. This is an important consideration when you are hanging several lights above your plants. Another is that they run silently and have a greater efficiency. Both of these points will save you aggravation and money. The digital versions of ballasts have quicker start-up times and they come in compact designs. This mean you can fit more grow lights into a smaller space.

The digital ballasts also allow the lamps to put out more light than other ballasts. This will save you a lot of money over time since it allows the grow bulb to put out twenty to thirty percent more light, yet runs on the same amount of electricity.

The newest LED lighting can save you a considerable amount of money, especially if you have a larger home with a lot of lights. They actually use 25% less energy than a conventional bulb. This works out to a significant amount of money to be saved on your utility bill over a period of a few months.

Another way you can save is with the the fact that an LED light bulb will burn 10 longer than a regular light bulb. This will save having to replace bulbs on a regular basis.  It is surprising how much money the average household spends per year on light bulbs. In fact regular light bulbs seem to last very a very short time these days.
