Active and Passive Hydroponic Systems
Posted by: hydroponicgarden in Hydroponic Systems, Hydroponics, indoor gardens, tags: HydroponicsThe Floating Gardens of China and The Hanging Gardens of Babylon are two examples of hydroponic gardening. Scientists have been looking closely at this method since 1950. Countries like Germany, Australia and Holland have been using this system for many years. In the 19th century, the researchers of plant technology came to know that it is actually possible to garden without soil. The essential minerals need for a plant to grow can be carried in the water.
An active hydroponic system
moves the nutrient solution using a pump. The passive system works on the capillary system. Passive systems are too weak to supply enough oxygen to the root system for maximum growth.
Another method of characterizing hydroponics is recovery or non-recovery. Recovery systems or re-circulating systems re-use the nutrient solution and non recovery systems don’t.
